Right thigh muscle biopsy demonstrated scattered necrotic myofibers some of which were infiltrated by macrophages (myophagocytosis). There was scant endomysial inflammatory infiltrate composed of a mixture of CD3 and CD4 positive T-lymphocytes, CD68 positive macrophages and lesser numbers of CD8 positive T-lymphocytes. Type II fiber atrophy was also noted. Findings were those of necrotizing myopathy with accompanying type II fiber atrophy
